Our trendy natural stone items have been scientifically tested by mineralogist Hanco Zwaan who works at the Gem Lab at Naturalis in the Netherlands.
These beads are made of agate. This means that the bead is actually made of natural stone and also contains a coating or layer of paint. The original shape of the stone has not been touched. This natural stone is said to have an anchoring effect.
Agate is part of the broad category of fine stones and more precisely belongs to the quartz family, and in particular to a type of chalcedony. It is composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and has a trigonal crystal structure.
